Kristian Bailey - 2013 Brown Aveda Graduate, Managing Esthetician, and Freelance Makeup Artist

Kristian Bailey has been busy since her Brown Aveda graduation just four years ago. Whether she's traveling for business, or working from her innovative makeup station at Bangs Salon in Lyndhurst, Kristian's success radiates the true art of beauty inside and out.

My education was the foundation that started my career. It taught me a lot about skin, how to address issues, and the importance of good skin care, because makeup is nothing without it.
— Kristian Bailey

Why do you love what you do?

I'm able to meet different people from all walks of life, and I'm able to connect with them and make them feel beautiful. If they're having a bad day or need that extra boost, I get to give that to them, and I'm blessed to be able to go into different arenas and meet people.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from other artists that have paved the way before me, other people's takes on things, or just nature. I just love looking at other works of art, and in the beauty of the outdoors, looking at scenery or nature or how the seasons are changing; things like that really inspire me to do different things and love painting faces.

What makes an artist successful?

Have a good attitude and be personable! People want to feel that energy, so it needs to be good energy everywhere you go so you will be memorable. Going to LA and doing TV was all from word-of-mouth referrals, so always think about how you present yourself. And practice practice practice! I don't care if you have to lock yourself in the bathroom and do your makeup over and over again like I did, you have to give it your all, and make sure you start investing in a kit with good quality products now.
