General Program Questions

  • Cosmetology covers a broad range of beauty services (hair, nails, skincare, etc.), while Esthetics focuses specifically on skincare, facials, Makeup and related treatments.

  • Program length varies by state and school, but Cosmetology takes 11-12 months (1500 hours and Esthetics takes 5- 11 months for 600 hours.

  • Most programs prepare you for state licensing exams, granting a cosmetology license or esthetician license, depending on your focus.

  • We do not offer any online courses at this time.

  • Tuition ranges from $4100 to $25,000 depending on the program and location. Many schools offer financial aid, scholarships, or payment plans. Financial Aid is determined once you have filled out the fafsa form. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. View Tuition and Fee details.


Admissions and Requirements

  • You need a high school diploma or GED. No age limit is required.

  • No prior experience is required; programs are designed for beginners.

  • There is an admission interview required and you must pass our admission evaluation as part of the application process.


Curriculum and Training

  • Cosmetology: Hair cutting, coloring, styling, nail care, makeup, and basic skincare, Manicures and Pedicures. Esthetics: Facials, waxing, makeup application, skin analysis, and advanced treatments like microdermabrasion.

  • Yes, most programs include a clinical or salon component where you practice on clients under supervision.

  • Makeup training is a part of the Cosmetology and Esthetics programs which you will cover. Advanced training is something you would do once you have a license and are working in the industry.


Career and Licensing

  • You’ll need to pass a state board exam (written and practical) after meeting your state’s required training hours.

  • The beauty industry is growing, with steady demand in salons, spas, and freelance opportunities. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects modest growth (around 8-10% by 2030).

  • Licenses are state-specific, but many states offer reciprocity or allow you to transfer with additional requirements.

  • We can’t guarantee jobs, but we support every student by hosting career fairs, salon demo days, and arranging salon tours while building strong salon relationships to connect you with opportunities.


School-Specific Questions

  • AVEDA stands out with highly trained staff certified in Pivot Point International Salon Fundamentals, exclusive use of plant- and flower-based, cruelty-free, vegan AVEDA products, and a curriculum that blends wellness with beauty education. Students master retail demonstrations to enhance customer service skills, reflecting AVEDA’S high standards in health, beauty, and education.

  • Our kit is included in the cost of the program and includes essential tools (e.g., shears, brushes, skincare products).

  • Ratios vary, but good programs often maintain 10:1 to 20:1 for personalized attention.

  • Many schools offer career services, including job boards, resume help, or salon partnerships.

  • Some schools encourage participation in local or national competitions to build skills and portfolios.

  • Yes, the program qualifies for federal aid and student loans. We require all students to complete the FAFSA to determine if an interested person qualifies. The 300-hour program is not Pell Grant Eligible, but you can apply for a student loan.

  • Yes, it involves standing for long periods and repetitive motions, so physical stamina is important.

  • Yes, many graduates open salons, spas, or freelance as independent contractors after gaining experience.

Personal Considerations
