Kate Beko - 2014 Brown Aveda Graduate and Multi-Faceted Stylist
Just a few years after graduating from Brown Aveda Institute, Kate Beko is diving into her work at Ammon Carver Studio in New York City.
As salon manager, stylist, Director of Education, and now a 2018 NAHA finalist, Kate "subscribes to do everything," relishing in a range of fashion shoots to everyday clients for coloring, styling, and educating.
With the roar of the city streets behind us, we asked Kate about her success as an artist in the industry:
Why do you love what you do?
I get to be creative and collaborate with artists every day and there's never a dull moment. I get to be inspired, push limits, express myself, and make connections with people I never thought I would.
What do you think makes an artist successful?
Hard work. Hard work is everything and what I owe my success to. No excuses, showing up, making connections with people, taking any jobs that I can take to learn and grow. Continuing education has been key for me as well.
How did your Aveda experience impact where you are now?
They really prepare students for the outside world more than a basic cosmetology school. I was able to apply what I learned and take everything a step further with my product knowledge, skills, and technique.
Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?
Follow your dreams and your passion. It can be hard work but you just have to do it. Put in the hours, believe in yourself, and surround yourself with people who believe in you and help you grow.
